NEW AIR SERVICE IN DURGAPUR

AirCar, the low-cost charter airline, will soon connect state capital Calcutta with nearby industrial hub using 9-14 seater planes.Their studies indicates that there is immense potential for routes such as Calcutta-Durgapur if the price can be kept low. There are enough senior executives and owners of small firms to fill up a small aircraft. They save time and at affordable prices switch to planes from trains and roadways.Tickets will be sold on these flights through portals. The state will offer airstrips, assistance in handling and security services at the smaller towns, besides providing a captive clientele to AirCar in the form of government officials and ministers. We would use economical aircraft, which do not guzzle huge amounts of jet fuel, and with low landing and other charges, we can keep overheads down.AirCar is keen on tapping what, it feels, can be an excellent market such as Calcutta-Durgapur, having huge potential.

There is no need of flying small aircrafts between Cal and Dur.Normal aircrafts shall do well.Such effort was initited earlier as well, when DSP constructed an air strip at Bijra. But the project did not see the light.Best way is to start with Durgapur as intermediate stop between Kolkata and Delhi once the air port at Dupchuria ( Andal village project)gets ready.Passengers using Cal airport to go to other places shall certainly prefer it but, preference of passengers to move between Cal and Dur by air, shall depend on how much time it takes for check in and check out procedure, at air ports particularly in Kolkata.By Volvo/SBSTC one can now reach Home from Home between cal and Dur normally in only three and half to four and half hours.Once Panagar bypass is ready, time will be further reduced. Normally SBSTC and Volvo done well in transportation! And we can normally reach Kolkata from Durgapur in 2-3 hrs normally. But when will the air service star and how much time it will take?

I agree and disagree :)
Agree to the fact that Durgpaur is too close to Calcutta to be air-borne but at the same time, if the service is launched and it is good, people will take it. The market will grow once the entire eastern region is revived.

BENGAL AEROTROPOLIS PROJECTS LTD already initiated the Airport work in association with Changi/Singapore.Hopefully By 2013 it will going to start its operation...so we have to wait only few days to fly from Andal Airport to all over India....Lets support Bengal Aerotropolis visionary effort regarding the same

I agree with the views that Cal-Durgapur will not be a very feasable options because of the cost but where we talk about connections and time may be a morning and late night needs to be there. Cal-Del would be mostly preferred as per sources Bengal Aetropolis airport should be opened by Nov2012. wish them all the best
